President's Speech

On behalf of the Executive Committee and the member companies of BACCO, I am extremely delighted to welcome you all to our new BACCO website.

Our industry journey began when Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) created the first BPO and Call Centre policies in early 2008 and provided licenses that allowed VoIP and thus enabling the BPO industry to provide both data and voice services for the first time in the country to meet the demands of our customers locally as well as internationally.

We are fortunate to have the full and unequivocal support from the Bangladesh Government and the pioneering vision of our Honourable Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.  We would like to also express our sincere gratitude to the Honourable ICT Advisor, Sajeeb Wazed for his vision for our industry and our very dynamic ICT State Minister, Mr Zunaid Ahmed Palak for his tireless support.

The innovative & resilient attitude of our BACCO member clients has allowed our nascent industry to grow from 11 members employing 300+ people in 2008 to presently having 90+ members employing over 30,000+ people across various services and industry. We believe that Bangladesh has the ability and opportunity to create over 250,000+ sustainable middle income jobs for our youths in the next 7-10 years.

The infrastructure has developed sufficiently, whereby very diverse array of services is being provided to our domestic and international clients and we are already seeing accelerated investments in our industry.   The fast development of the High-Tech Park, the various support in developing our resources through government grants and assistance and the can-do attitude of the entire ICT Division has propelled this industry to be well on its way to Digital Bangladesh by 2021.

Behind these statistics are real people whose lives we are changing and uplifting them to better living standard, one family at a time. This can only be done with the support from the parents and families who play a key role in ensuring that their children are better prepared for the working environment. Emphasizing their language and communication skills be it in Bangla or English, will be key in ensuring their success in the BPO industry and their career. This industry and the diverse job opportunities it provides is a stepping stone to a lifelong immense and meaningful career.

The impact of this industry in our local economy is greater than any other industry and to be able to achieve our challenging goals we need support from our entire BACCO family and all of our stakeholders. I once heard a very famous US talk show host named Oprah Winfrey say, “The future is so bright that I have to wear sunglasses.” Ladies & gentlemen, I believe she was referring to the BPO and Call Centre sector of Bangladesh.

Let me end with thanks, from the bottom of my heart, to all the unsung heroes who are the backbone of this industry. Without you, there’d be no industry or need for BACCO.   Inshallah, with all of your doa we will achieve greatness.
